Sunset at my beach..

Another sunset

Enjoy! I sure did. Love the sun.. miss the sun.. completely obsessed with the sun!

--Heather :)

Self Portrait..

Sitting on the beach..

Just me sitting on the beach watching the boys playing in the water, dirt & yes even the mud. They had a great time today. I kept an eye on the clouds too. Looks like they are gathering together. Eh. I hope not. That is my husband in the backround.
He was making fun of me taking a self portrait. Kept asking me if he wanted me to have him take the photo. {rolls eyes} DOH! What is the whole idea of a self portrait?? Sure isn't to get a photo of a person behind you putting the peace sign (bunny ears) behind your head. Is it? Oh well. I'll get him back eventually....... ;)

This is a Diamond..

She is literally in the ruff. Or rough, as it stands right now. She was pulled out of a Kill Shelter by an inexperienced person.

This is the message, I received: "Hi,
Need some help, please feel free to forward to people you know and trust:

Dog walkers needed for a sweetheart in foster...here's YOUR chance to help!

Diamond is a pit bull pup being fostered at vet clinic in Woodside, Queens (NYC) - easily accessible by train. She was pulled off the euth list from the ACC but is emaciated and languishes in a cage where she is covered in her own feces and urine. If anyone could commit to walking her that'd be fantastic - even once a week would be soooo helpful. Of course if you could foster for her that'd be a dream. She's emaciated so I would reccommend bringing treats/food/water for her when walking her. A woman in Arkansas is stepping up to adopt her but that won't happen till next week.

Info re: Diamond:
Very young, about 8 months, 40lbs, non-puller, easy walker and a very nice, shy temperment. She was grateful for her walks and attention. The Vet is located in a nice, safe area - very nice to walk her in.

If you can help out (just one walk a week would help greatly, especially any walkers for July 4th wknd) PLEASE email me (Susycav@gmail.com) and I will let the Vet know you are allowed to walk this desperate girl."

Any help is always welcomed! Thank you! --Heather :)

Thought for today..

Monarch Mariposa Besa Butterfly

From my good pal, wikipedia.com

"Karma is not fate, for humans act with free will creating their own destiny. According to the Vedas, if we sow goodness, we will reap goodness; if we sow evil, we will reap evil."

Define Karma

"We reap what we sow."

"Related to sowing and reaping, Madame Chiang Kai-shek once wrote:

"If the past has taught us anything it is that every cause brings its effect, every action has a consequence. We Chinese have a saying: "If a man plants melons he will reap melons; if he sows beans, he will reap beans." And this is true of everyone's life; good begets good, and evil leads to evil. True enough, the sun shines on the saint and the sinner alike, and too often it seems that the wicked prosper. But we can say with certainty that, with the individual as with the nation, the flourishing of the wicked is an illusion, for, unceasingly, life keeps books on us all. In the end, we are all the sum total of our actions. Character cannot be counterfeited, nor can it put on and cast off as if it were a garment to meet the whim of the moment. Like the markings on wood which are ingrained in the very heart of the tree, character requires time and nurturing for growth and development. Thus also, day by day, we write our own destiny; forinexorably...we become what we do."

Just a small idea. I fully believe in Karma. Ideas of Karma and Buddhism really intrigue me. It's fascinating to read about. Things that they *knew* or discussed 100's of years ago. Just incredible. Just a thought for the day. Please sow goodness everyone! XOXO Heather :)

The Thunder Rolls....

This is just a few moments ago, at my house. For the last 21 days out of 24 we have had rain. Today we finally had an entire day of full on sun. Gorgeous sun, and blue skies. I managed a few hours laying out. Trying to get some colour, and enjoy the day. {more later, lightning is here now.}

No, don't go.. I love you so..

Well the storm, if you could call it that was kinda boring. Rumbled for about 3o minutes give or take and then gave up the ghost. Few zaps across the skies, little rain drops here and there. Mostly sprinkles. Really, was there a point to taking away my sun, again? Just more frustrating rain. It does seem like the rain is getting tired of falling. I hope it gives up the fight soon. Really soon. Like last week, even. Ergh! I'm starting to pine for the desert..

Goodbye Dear Sun...

I do have this *thing* for sky photos. So all in all not a bad thing. I'm just complaining, because it's a peculiar strength of mine? ;)

☁☂Go away. I want ☼☼☼ From now on!

Always doing something...

I'm working on an advertisement for my Etsy shop. So far with flickr and MS paint, this is what I have come up with. Kind of a test. I'm probably going to go with my shop icon, the little 3 Am Art Owl. But, this was just a test. Playing with the computer a little bit.

Orange you glad I finally had some sunshine today?

Orange u glad?

I sure was excited. It's been raining for the the last 21 days out of 24 days this month. This was one of the first days where it didn't rain ALL day long. It was sunny and shiny all day today. This pretty orange beauty begged me to take it's photo, this afternoon. So not wanting to disappoint the flower I snapped it quickly.

I also captured some dark red ones that are growing by my mailbox. I really love the deep red hue. So captivating.

Another set of red lillies cropped up

I hope wherever you are.. you're enjoying the sun. Or the rain, should that be your fate as well. Wonder what tomorrow will bring? We shall see.

Cute little cabs are here!

GLEEE! What a joyful day. My supplier has sent me the cabochons I've been waiting for. Now I can make rings to my hearts content. I'm selling them on etsy in my shop& also going to be using these as gifts for family & friends. I've already made a couple rings. I'm selling them for $5.99 which includes standard shipping. I try to help reuse, reduce, and recycle, and I mail them in saved bubble mailers from my own purchases, and mail them via my mailbox or have hubby take them when he goes to check our PO Box.

I just love them!

They are so cute to look at!

I'm so happy they are here! Hope you like them too.

XOXO Heather :)

Where has he been all my life??

"Drinking cow milk has been linked to iron-deficiency anemia in infants and children; it has been named as the cause of cramps and diarrhea in much of the World's population and the cause of multiple forms of allergies as well."

Thought for the day.. from a forum posting, etsyveg post..

PETA is wonderful because, they get the word out. People would never hear about these things without them. Yes they do the over the top thing.. but, the SQUEAKY WHEEL Gets the grease, gets folks talking, posting, and LEARNING.

Folks do have to make up their own minds of course, and seeing is believing. I suggest watching each and every single video PETA has on it's various sites. If you can stomach all of them, I applaud you on your iron stomach. Me, I cannot. So I'm Vegan. (thank you PETA, Greenpeace, Skinny Bitch, and others) I'm also leather free, fur free, and wool free. I do have leather shoes from prior, I will not toss them out, since it goes against my recycler grain. FUR on the other hand I'd bury it before I wore it. I wear my leather Danskos, because of my back pain. I don't like it tho. I mean I love Danksos. I wish they had a Vegan option. Until they do, I can't buy anymore. Now I'm a big fan of Charmone.com I don't know how their shoes fit, as of yet. My very first pair are en route, as we speak.

I also don't have the Puritanical views lots of USA people have. I love the Peta videos with the veggies and the pretty ladies. Wish they asked me. ;0 I do wish they would do the reverse, and have some Vegan men do one too. EDIT: What's good for the Gander, is also good for the goose."

One word on Vegan men: Stamina. One word on Vegan women: Stamina. ;) ;)

You don't have to go entirely meat free. Try it once in a while to start. It really opened up my food repetoire. I was soooo bored with eating anything, before, I found Veganism. Now I've found tons of new, different exciting things to eat. No one dies to keep me healthy. I'm happier *mentally* too, and also one big one: I haven't gotten sick in 2 years. Pollen allergies are also less of a pain. Since going Milk free, and replacing it with Soy, my back is less painful too. Soy isn't a dirty word folks. Try Soy milk sweetened, like drinking ice cream base. YUMMMYY to the 10th power!

There are soo many reasons to go Veg in some form or another. Animals aren't the only reason. But, they are just as important, as we are to this planet. "Why is his life, any less important, than your's is?" --The BEE movie. It's not. We all have a reason to be here on this planet. We don't need to know the why. We just need to realize it before the seas are empty. And the animals are gone. Just some thoughts. Not harping on anyone.

That's about it. Peta is a bit over the top, so is Greenpeace. So can other groups be. I wouldn't have heard about the environmental issues as a Highschooler, and began my own local grassroots effort without Greenpeace. So for that, and the folks like them. I do appreciate them. I thank them. Someone has to be the one to tell us. Someone has to be *that person* that no one wants to be. Someone has to YELL and get loud and annoying.. (sorry) otherwise.. nothing will ever change. I do of course prefer the ways of Buddha. Quiet, leading, being unobtrusive etc. But someone has to kick and scream.

"For the river to flow downwards.. a single drop of rain has to fall."

"You are what you eat."

"99.9999% Of all of our issues, comes from the foods we eat." Sure there is a case study out there to prove this. But, my quote is just from common sense. I mean, come on, it's not like we are bathing in motor oil or something. But, every single day we eat. Food is the source of all of our problems, digestive, mental, etc.

I'm even willing to go so far as to say: "If you want World Peace, stop KILLING for food."

Just a thought for today.. --Heather :)

What's big, red and bright all over?

100_0848

Lillies growing out front of my new house! Wooo these are so gorgeous! I was wondering what colour they would be. One of our old houses came with orange ones. I never really liked them. These ones however, are JAM! POW! exciting looking. I LOVE them. I took a break this afternoon and shot about 10-15 photos of them. Also while out there. I found a little red bug hopping on some of the leaves. he looks so cute. I do think he is eating the leaves, though. There were several bite marks on the flowers. But, there are plenty of them so I am willing to share. :)

Enjoy!! --Heather :)

"Lips like sugar.. Sugar kisses... Lips like sugar... Sugar kisses --echo and the bunnymen.

sugar kisses..

I love love love making these rings. They make everyone so happy. They make me smile just looking at them. The polymer ones are all handmade by me. From start to finish. I press the polymer into metal buttons or rubber forms and cut them into shapes with teeny tiny cookie cutters. You can diy it yourself, if you like. I will be pleased to pass directions and techniques along to you. (hskoconnor@gmail.com :) I purchase the resin cabochons and glue them to the metal ring forms. The polymer ones are my fav, tho. I love every step of making them. So much fun. The last step using some enamel paint to clearcoat them is best. (the dark blue one has glitter paint on it too. Never enough glitter. Lots of fun making people smile. :)

New tote bags..

New tote bags in my cafe press shop here.

I'm still working on finding the best place to make calendars for me. I would love to have them to offer up in my etsy shop, or elsewhere. I think they would be a wonderful seller. I might look into making them myself, though. I'm looking at having more time in the Fall for myself, and my crafting. So I hope to start working on them soon.

Another Awesome Doggy needs a home!

This time in Pasadena! Please tweet, facebook & network!

“Daphne” (A248748), 1 ½ year-old Lab/Pit mix at Pasadena Humane Society is in need of adoption/rescue! She has been at the shelter since April 20th and Please network!

Daphne has won over a lot of people at the shelter with her great dog-socialization skills and happy demeanor. She has been used quite frequently as the “tester dog” by the behavior department as they evaluate other dogs. She is very playful, and also knows not to push the other dogs. We would recommend that an adopter for Daphne have no cats, as she seems to be a little too interested in them.

Daphne gets out with volunteers for regular walks around the park. They say that she has a ton of energy for the first 10 minutes of the walk, but then mellows out to a nice stroll. She has learned the “sit” and “down” commands very quickly and would love to learn more. She would definitely be a star at an obedience class.

Daphne has had a lot of interest from adopters at the shelter, but no one has adopted her yet. Because of our space limitations, we have been asked to get a commitment for this love bug by June 16th.

If you are able to rescue or adopt “Daphne” (A248748), please contact the Pasadena Humane Society adoptions office at (626) 792-7151 x 137, Kevin at x 119, Mary at x 121, or Ute at x 117. Or email Kevin at mobile@phsspca.org Mary at adoptsup@phsspca.org or Ute at ute@phsspca.org

Beginner's Luck?

ivy queen s. o'connor

Here is another photograph by my husband, Sean O'Connor. He purchased himself a cheapo camera. It cost $15 on sale and is pink in colour. The colour doesn't bother him, in the least. The camera has 5 mega pixels. He absolutely hates the camera, though. The view finder is so tiny he couldn't hardly see through it to take a photo, so it was very difficult for him. Driving him somewhat batty. The photos it takes are very nice---when you can see through the viewfinder or get lucky. Even I had trouble using it. So I bought him a better one. You see he's like me. Stingy. He didn't wanna spend a lot of money on something, if perchance he wasn't interested in this becoming a hobby for him. But, since he has had some great beginner's luck with my camera____ It seems to me like this new hobby is going to stick.

I found him a much better camera, one with more mega pixels, and a HUGE viewfinder. I will pick him up a shade for the viewfinder this weekend. It's a little shade that attaches to the viewfinder of the camera with a sticky backing, and allows you to partially cover the viewfinder from the sun. Too much sun in a viewfinder and you can't see the subject matter very well.. and then your photos aren't so good.
I've been playing with his photos, and having fun editing them. Below showcases the same photo from above, just edited in picnik for fun.

Happy Snapping! --Heather 'aktie9' :)

ORANGES!!

100_0499

MMMM I just love these oranges.. so pretty & cheerful. I had to post another shot of them. I wanted to pluck one off the tree. I'd love to have a tree of my own. I had two meyer lemons. But, they both died on me. My house was too dry, I think. I might try it again soon, though. As I loved having them. They are too wonderful to watch growing and enjoying. Plus, it's nice to have citrus in the winter time and make your very own juices. --Heather 'aktie9' :)
