Why Do I Care About the Plight of Animals?

Cause I look deeply into their eyes. I really look at them. I can commiserate with their condition. I can see similarities, between them and myself. I have things in common with this Peacock. Yes I do. For a simple example: He wears blue. I love the colour blue. Why does he need to be caged? If you feed this animal, it's going to stick around. Why can't they *and yes there are about 6 of these in this one, tiny spot* have more room in a less confining area?

Cages stink. I don't cage my dog's anymore after we learned "where to potty" we put them away. I just don't like cages.. and I don't see the need. I have wild turkeys who roam in the area where I live. I'd be honored if and when they stop by my yard to eat the grass & moss on my front lawn. We've had Deer come over for a apple or two and I was quite pleased just to hear that they happened by. We need to LOVE the animals who live amongst us more & stop caging and getting rid of them. They belong here too. They were born on this planet, so how can they be considered a nuisance?
How do people who hate or kill animals live with themselves? Don't they see? Animals are alive too & belong here.

Taking Flight..

Taking Flight..

Introducing my newest image for sale, in my Etsy shop. "Taking Flight" By Heather Henry.

I really like this image. It was a happy moment for me. As it was likely a very happy moment, for the butterfly too. Wonderful thing to fly and have that freedom whenever you desire it. What a wonderful being to be born as, a butterfly. Often called "Flying Flowers" these spectacular creatures are just so gorgeous and live such short lives. Best to snap a photo so you can enjoy their loveliness, as long as you can.

Thanks for taking the time and stopping by! XOXO Heather :)

Super Vegan Ninja Mom Goddess!

My good friend, Susmitha of Art By Susmitha & Veganosaurus came up with this cool slogan. "Super Vegan Ninja Mom Goddess." I saw her talking about it over on facebook.com and asked her to make me a pendant just like it. She found out that Goddess wouldn't fit on the pendant itself so she charged a amethyst crystal and added that for the Goddess part. The rest of the words were all handstamped onto the silver disc. It's absolutely perfect & just what I wanted!

Also along with my package came this lil' cutie pie. Susmitha also makes these wonderful little clay creatures, decorations for your home & desk. Everyone should have one, they are soo cute! So fun to look up at him and smile. He brings me such smiles. I even made him a tiny lil' clay house.

Cute

FREE Download Time!

I was bored today. So I took one of my new butterfly photos and turned one into a free download. You can use it for a backround or even print it out. I think 11x14 is the largest size you will want to use for this photo, but you will know more when you upload it to snapfish or another photo printing service. It does have a tiny watermark, but once framed or placed on a computer desktop you will not see it.

It is here on my google sites pages. I have other ones availible there too. So please check it out & have fun! XOXO Heather :)

Did You Say The USA Was Going To The Dogs?

Did you? Really? Did you tell me to bring my A Game? Bring it? To quote a teen movie: "Oh it's been brought."

"I'm not angry. I refuse to get angry. Better men & women have tried to pitch me into that empty pit. Anger is defeating. It stops you on the path to thinking, learning and enlightenment. It is a complete time waster. I'm not one to waste time. Time is important. It's all we have. So ignore any anger directed missives you read out there & get thinking, learning and trying something new."

My Guys..

My Guys ..

Talking about my guys..

The guys today at Tower Hill Botanical Gardens in W. Boylston, Massachusetts. They were taking a short break after all of our wandering around on the hiking trails there. "Come on boys, let's go!!" I'm something of a tyrant, HURRY you gotta see this & I wanna walk faster, so come on!" Kids were beat at the end of the day. "Mommmeeeee, my legs won't go anymore!" Let's just hope they sleep well tonight, they sure need it!

Busy Bee Pollinating The Apple Trees

Busy Bee Pollinating..

Viewed in West Boylston, Massachusetts, today at Tower Hill Botanical Gardens. A special and very dear place to me. I showed the children the lovely gardens today, with my husband. We had a lovely day. We found out there is some serious hiking trails (well, for 5&6 year olds, that is) there, and had a lot of fun walking all over. So beautiful. Such a lovely day. Hope you enjoyed your Sunday too.

Wow, just realized how many times I said lovely. Ok word change time.

It was a wonderful time.

Freedom Sunday!

Late last night, I went down to do some laundry in the basement. My husband followed me to help out & picked up one of the kid's toys off the floor. Lo and behold there was a Salamander on the floor. Deja vu anyone? It's not Deja vu, this really happened to me once before. So now I've got two Salamanders on the counter in a bug container. Since the warm weather is now here, we decided it was defenitely time to move these fellas along to their natural environment.

Muddy & Lightning

You might recall the first Salamander as being called Muddy. The second one my son named him Lightning, and it's a very apt name. Considering the second we got him out of his confinement chamber he booked it to the shade and was gone well before we could say goodbye. He did not like being in a container on a counter, at all. He was not having it. I'm guessing the first Salamander, Muddy must have been a older, calmer guy then. Lightning was chomping at the bit to get his freedom the second he moved in.

Lightning, the Salamander

In the forest where we dropped these guys off to live. We came across about 30 painted Turtles swimming, hanging on logs and generally just having all kinds of turtle fun. Incredible sighting. I'm still working on editing up some of the photos, and will post some more later. There is nothing so rewarding as seeing 30 painted turtles just doing their own thing. It must be amazing being them. Wonder if they pay taxes. ;)

Turtle Heaven

I imagine Muddy & Lightning aren't singing this song, but, I will do it on their behalf. Twist my arm.

Have a wonderful life, Muddy & Lightning. You will be missed. We enjoyed learning all about you & your family. Of course, I lasted about 3 days, and I found a new counter pal. His name is Brewster. My etsyveg pals gave me the idea. They came up with various forms of Bruise or Bruiser for his name, since he's blue & purple. Brewster is also a town on the Cape too. It's where we go in the summers.

Brewster The Fish

Now, all we have to do is patch the hole in the basement where the Salamanders were getting in. We shouldn't have anymore wintertime visitors. Kinda sad actually. :(

Tell Me Lies Tell Me Sweet Little Lies..

Little Lies Tell Me Sweet Little Lies..

Overheard a man explaining the fanning ritual, to his children, that the male peacock was doing to the female peafowl, as just showing off his feathers and some other stuff I won't repeat since it was hogwash. Actually,I'm not sure he realized the more colourful bird as being the MALE. He was clearly embarassed to have to talk about this subject with his kids. He was trying to get them to leave the area, but the birds' feathers are soo pretty one kid told him.

OK Dude. Sure. WHAT ? Ok, I'm not one to explain the birds & bees to my kids at the Pre-k age, but I can come up with a WAY better explanation that is the truth & scientific and doesn't LIE outright to my kids. So that later on down the line.. they learn the truth & the truth about Santa, the Easter Bunny, the World around them.. and start looking at you funny, for the weird "truths" you've told them over the years.

Maybe, it's just me. I told my Pediatrician bold face that he would have to explain "female troubles" to me, since my Mother might not be able to fully explain it to me. He explained. I was totally and completely fine with him telling me. HE was embarassed, as I do think my Mom might have been also.

FOLKS, if you're gonna have kids. Your gonna have to do some explaining at some point. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. We need to arm them with knowledge, because it's also key for safety! You know staying safe. OK, moving on.

Truth.
The MALE Peacock is the more colourful bird, so he can get the female's attention.

The Male is fanning his feathers to get her attention, so they can be friends. Also true.

He is also colourful for a reason. A Number one: TO protect the females & the eggs, and ultimately the babies (IE: the reason men & women tolerate each other even for a second, the babies, IE: survival of the species.) from other male Peacocks, or foxes, coyotes etc.. who would try to harm aka eat the eggs or babies.

My husband chirped in with "he's showboating" after I mentioned the peacock was showing off a little bit.

The other father and his kids left after that. Was hubby rude? He didn't say anything about the birds & the bees.

Define showboating for me Urban Dictionary: Adding unnecessary style flourishes to skilled activities, often beyond ones skill level, increasing the risk, and usually used to taunt or impress others.

Use it in a sentence:
That skateboarder was showboating to impress that girl when he broke his ankle.

True that. The Peacock was showboating his feathers to impress the peafowl. Maybe we used the definition & stretched it for our own usage, but it wasn't sexual or rude. It was fact. He's showboating. Not like we said he was ahem, nevermind.. google won't like me using that word here.

Later on in the confines of the car, I explained to my boys that you need both a male & a female to have babies, any babies. Unless you are a snail & some bugs too maybe. My kids were fine with it. No one giggled or thought this subject funny. Maybe I'm too bookish/science geek/nerd/literal. Whatever. I got free public eduMation and I use it very really well. HAH!

Think people need to put a little more truth in their "stories" to children. COME ON. Cinderella doesn't exist folks. The world is GRITTY & tough, and the kids need a primer for it, otherwise we will continue to 'Wait for our Prince' to come. Seriously. I'm still waiting. Where are youuuuuu? Lemme know, I'll drop the hair down. I've got a big long list of wants. Starting with a Yacht. ;) JK..

Worcester .. how do I love thee?

Very Good Friends of Ours..

Back in the day we lived in Worcester. Off of Lancaster Street. That's pronounced: Lancastah Street. ;) Anyway, we had a fire in 99'. Roof fire. Electrical storm. These folks were on the scene in a flash. I still have many of my items thanks to these wonderful folks. My cat & computer (in that order) were fine, thanks to them. Not to mention some really fugly furniture that could have gone up in smoke, but the cat was important. so they had to put the fire out. Otherwise.. I was going to suggest Fire training on the building. I gave them my permission even. Funny there were no takers. ;)

I've lived in Worcester in many many areas over the years, some of them even considered to be swanky. Stubborn as I am, I moved away and lived with my BF, now hubby in a slightly less than desireable neighborhood'. Nah, it was a great neighborhood. One of the best places I ever lived. I had some awesome neighbors, real people, who scrimped and saved and worked & toiled to make a buck. It was a awesome experience. Our rent was amazingly low. $375 per month. Someday I will write all about it.. it was incredible inner city experience. I'll never forget it. I have long forgiven the person who tried to break into our camaro & steal it. Besides he got his. Beer bottle to the head. Hurts eh? Easy pickings at the hospital for the police too. Heh. Not sure how they figured it out. Wasn't me that called. I don't know anyone who works for the Worcester PD either.

Lil fiction in there. You find it. :)

Anyway, I'm rather fond of the City no matter what traffic snarls it throws at me. Or the really extreme ride my husband has daily. This is why I still love Worcester. The Fire Dept & my friends on the Police Dept. You guys don't get enough credit. I appreciate all you do. XOXO --Heather :)

Nesting...

Nesting with stuffed animals..

The kids found her cuddling with their stuffed animal & went and got her a bunch more. Of course she loved it. Silliness happens a lot here. Of course they wanted me to take a photo & blog about it, since they adore seeing their photos online. They figured the dog would get a kick out of it too.
