Butterflies are my Fav Capture!

Black Swallowtail Butterfly

Second Butterfly to Go

I couldn't be happier with these captures. I had way too much fun watching these butterflies warm their wings, before taking off for the first time. I got to see the first butterfly leave, but since it was dark, the second one is still over on the plant, that I had snapped his or her photo on. I'm sure by the time I get out to the garden tomorrow, she or he will be long gone..fluttering around enjoying the first day of being a beautiful butterfly. --Heather :)

Buy Handmade!

I don't think I could say it any better myself! Thanks for buying handmade! That is my whole goal for all the volunteering I do, with all the etsy teams I'm in, to help other artists sell their items online. Handmade is such an important part of our life. I think we need to start doing more buying of handmade, cause it's a better way of getting items that we need or like. Plus there is less sweatshop, especially, when it comes to clothing manufacturing. I would love it if all sweatshops just stopped being horrible places & began paying out better living wages to folks. To the future the only way forward is up & treating all working people better! XOXO --Heather :)

A New Home

For my photos, that is. I am not fond of the flickr changes. So I began looking around the net & caught this site 500px. I quite like it. So I made a trial account there. Still working out the how to & such.

In the meantime, enjoy this pretty picture. I'm headed outside to water my garden again & hit the beach for the second time today. Enjoy life!!

New Shop!

I opened up another shop today for my artwork. I saw someone else's art on this site, and decided to give it a try. I can make iphone & ipad cases here with my artwork on them, so this is a nice idea given they are super-popular. I can do it on etsy too, but with a lot more work on my end. With this new shop, I don't have to do anything except upload the image folks are interested in. I don't even have to go to the PO, they do it all for me, I just collect a little stipend. Nice! So I uploaded one to give it a try & paid the money to become verified. DONE! These are the projects I really like! With a baby in tow & two bigger boys & dogs to walk.. very helpful to have small projects taken care of so quickly. Now if only Society 6 would do my grocery shopping for me. It's neverending!

Shop here! or here on XOXO Heather :)

Experiment Time

I've been doing this "knitting" experiment with a vegan yarn of mine. I purchased the vegan yarn to make a baby blanket for Fiona & didn't really like the way it came out. So I thought I'd take the French Knitter by Clover & turn the yarn into a cord & then knit that into a blanket.

{Here is the new yarn as a cord} 100_2868

{New Yarn on one of my knitting looms} 100_2861

Now I'm not going to knit it on this loom, this was just a test or whatever. Just to see that it does indeed work. I have a few more questions to figure out, first, before going whole hog with it. Like once the blanket is done, I'm going to need to stop knitting it at some point & tie it off. If I just snip it, it will unravel or has the potential to. I think what I am going to do is have to knit it as far as I can & then knit it back into the blanket with the excess. But with the "Yarn" being so thick this will be interesting. Hopefully not a huge waste of my time. I think I am either going to make knitting needles for it & or possibly create a loom of some kind for it to be loomed on. I do like the way the loom knit looks, and it does look good even at this size of "yarn". If this works out, I can see endless possibilities.. bedroom blankets, couch blankets, pillow cases.. and on & on. --Heather :)

For Boston!

For Boston

Friday the 19th was freaking scary. I've got many many many family members & friends in the Boston area. None in that town, but still. Friday was freaking scary. SO glad it's over. --Heather :)

Getting Some More Things Done

Amazingly enough, I have managed to get a few things done that have been plaguing me for a while. I finally used this pretty green yarn that I created with my drop spindle.

Whatcha Doin?

I turned it into a headband, altho it also works as a necklace or scarf on my daughter, Fee. I am working on using the pink & purple now. Some of the purple has become a bracelet & I am sewing on some of the pink to that bracelet now. Pictures later.

Banana Silk Fibers

I also managed to figure out how to use my round looms & actually made something I can be seen in with it.

Rainbow Cowl

I actually made three things with it. I made another rainbow cowl like this one for myself. This one shown fits the baby. I also made a purple one, but it unraveled & I'm sorting it out now.

I got myself this far in knitting with sticks. Did you know, loom knitting came first? Wikipedia it. It's true. Oh and men did it before women. Hence, people were able to catch fish to eat back in the day.

#knitting on this chilly night, what else do we do to pass the #winter ?

Hey it's progress. And I'll take whatever progress I can get in this regard. It's been extremely slow going for me. Loom knitting, on the other hand has been easy peasy for me, so I stick with it happily. --Heather :) P.S: I hope my blogging "voice" doesn't come off edgy or anything. I've been watching a lot of Daria lately, and that sometimes happens to me. I <3 Jane. She's my fav.

The King of Connacht II

The King of Connacht II
In 2005, on this day we had a gorgeous baby boy with blond hair & green eyes enter our lives. We named him after King Rory O'Connor or RuaidhrĂ Ua Conchobhair. By the time Rory was born at least a foot of snow was dumped on top of us. He, like his siblings were all born in Worcester, MA. By the same OB/GYN, a family friend. Today Rory is 8 and we have almost a foot of snow out there again. Ruaidri was the last High King, before the Norman Invasion of Ireland. I google searched Rory's name probably a 100 or more times. I found both men & women with the name. A doctor, a golfer, a Kennedy, a character in a awesome TV show, The Gilmore Girls, I even met a Rory while in College. It is still one of my favorite all time names. He is a beautiful, loving boy. I cannot get over how much of a love-bug he is. I am overjoyed to be his mother. Every day I wake up & think what a lucky person I am to have met him & his siblings and have all of them in my life.

I just made cards @ MOO. Thanks to a credit I got from etsy. Thanks, etsy! I can't believe how easy that was. Love Moo. YAY for me for actually finishing a project in no seconds flat. Seems like everything I want to do takes too much of my time now, and I never finish anything. Urgh. So annoying, but still so rewarding too.. I love my lil girl. She is my everything. Well not only her, but my sons too. They keep me mighty busy these days. So YAY I got a project done! I now have biz cards! WooT!
